It’s time to relaunch.
After 10+ years building and operating production platforms at scale, I’m sharing what actually works. Not theory. Not marketing. Real solutions to hard problems.
What This Is
A collection of pragmatic patterns and lessons from running infrastructure that matters: storage systems, Kubernetes clusters, backup infrastructure, autoscaling mechanisms, disaster recovery, and the operational decisions that separate systems that scale from systems that break.
We focus on combining the right platform for each problem:
- Kubernetes for orchestration and scaling compute workloads
- Debian for reliable, predictable Linux at scale
- FreeBSD for storage, replication, and performance-critical systems
- OpenBSD for security, firewalls, and network infrastructure
- Ansible for automation, configuration, and orchestration across platforms
- GitOps for version-controlled infrastructure and declarative deployments
The goal is not to use one tool for everything, but to choose the best platform for each layer and automate everything we can. When you run infrastructure at scale, manual operations don’t work. Automation isn’t optional—it’s how you survive. GitOps ensures your infrastructure is always defined in version control, auditable, and reproducible.
The focus is on what we’ve learned through:
- Building infrastructure to handle production workloads
- Choosing the right platform for each problem layer
- Operating systems at scale (compute, storage, networking)
- Solving real problems: capacity, reliability, cost, resilience
- Making architectural decisions with real constraints and tradeoffs
What This Is Not
- Tutorials for beginners
- Marketing for vendor solutions
- “Best practices” that apply to everyone
- Buzzword-driven technical writing
Why Now
Most technical content is either too academic or too promotional. This is different. It’s grounded in actual production experience: what broke, why it broke, how we fixed it, and what we learned.
Real numbers. Real tradeoffs. Real solutions from infrastructure operating in production environments.
